Project
Are you a senior PHP developer who loves designing clean REST APIs and building interactive front-end experiences — and are you open to an exciting greenfield project at a leading European telecom company in Amsterdam?
We are looking for a Senior PHP/Laravel Developer to join the Fusion platform team and own two closely linked workstreams: building a production-grade REST API for Fusion (with full Swagger/OpenAPI documentation), and productionising an existing chatbox proof-of-concept into a fully integrated real-time messaging feature.
The client runs “Fusion” — an in-house platform used by their network and procurement teams. A proof-of-concept chatbox has already been built inside Fusion and validated with stakeholders. The project now has two parallel goals: ship a production-grade REST API that exposes Fusion data to external consumers, and evolve the chatbox POC into a fully integrated, real-time messaging feature.
Both workstreams feed each other: the chatbox back end is built on top of the new API layer, and the Swagger/OpenAPI documentation covers both the general Fusion API and the chat endpoints.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Design and implement a versioned Laravel REST API (API Resources, FormRequests, Laravel Passport) covering core Fusion domains: assets, purchase orders, projects, receipting, sites, and users.
- Write and maintain Swagger/OpenAPI documentation served directly from the application (e.g. via L5-Swagger); keep annotations in sync with implementation.
- Productionise the existing chatbox POC: model conversations, messages, and participants; expose them through the new Fusion API layer.
- Build the Laravel chatbox component, integrating it cleanly into the Fusion UI shell with cursor-based pagination for message history.
- Implement OAuth 2.0 authentication via Laravel Passport with scoped access tokens; configure rate limiting and standardised error responses (RFC 7807) across all endpoints.
- Write feature tests (PHPUnit/Pest) for every API endpoint and chat flow, covering happy-path and error-path scenarios.
- Collaborate with the internal platform team on API scope, authentication requirements, and release planning.
Job requirements
- 5+ years of PHP development experience
- 3+ years working with the Laravel framework (Jobs, Queues, API Resources, Passport, Broadcasting, Eloquent)
- Proven experience designing and building production REST APIs in Laravel, including versioning, OAuth 2.0 via Laravel Passport, and structured error handling
- Hands-on experience writing OpenAPI/Swagger documentation from a Laravel codebase (L5-Swagger, annotations, or schema-first)
- Proficiency with Livewire (or comparable front-end framework) sufficient to build and integrate UI components
- Solid MySQL/MariaDB query skills; comfortable writing complex joins and subqueries
Preferred:
- Experience building chat or messaging features in a web application (conversations, participants, real-time delivery, notifications)
- Familiarity with AWS services: S3 for file storage, SQS for queues, ECS for containerised deployments
- Experience with PHPunit for PHP testing
- Knowledge of RFC 7807 (Problem Details for HTTP APIs) or similar error-response standards
- Docker / containerised PHP development experience
- Experience with OAuth 2.0 / API security patterns and CORS configuration in a multi-consumer environment
