We are looking for a Data Science Team Lead to strengthen a central data science capability responsible for intelligent discovery solutions.
In this role, you will coordinate a team working on improving how information is found, ranked, and validated within large-scale digital environments. You will also play a key role in defining how system performance is measured, especially in setups where traditional search is combined with generative AI.
The position offers the opportunity to influence systems used globally by professionals who rely on accurate and context-aware information.

What you will be doing
Team direction & collaboration

  • Take responsibility for guiding a group of specialists working on discoverability, ranking logic, and output validation.
  • Set priorities and translate long-term objectives into practical initiatives and deliverables.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, and platform stakeholders to ensure solutions align with real-world usage.
  • Encourage an environment where experimentation, measurable outcomes, and knowledge sharing are central.
  • Contribute to broader strategic discussions around AI-powered discovery capabilities.

Improving information discovery

  • Enhance methods used to match user intent with relevant content across large and complex datasets.
  • Work on approaches that combine keyword-based techniques with embedding-driven and hybrid solutions.
  • Improve systems where generated answers are supported by retrieved sources.
  • Support the evolution of underlying services such as semantic enrichment and interconnected data layers.

Quality measurement & validation

  • Define how system effectiveness is assessed, covering both traditional search outputs and AI-generated responses.
  • Introduce evaluation approaches that look at correctness, reliability, and alignment with source material.
  • Build and manage datasets used for benchmarking and continuous improvement.
  • Run experiments to compare approaches and optimize performance over time.
  • Ensure responsible use of AI by incorporating fairness checks and bias awareness into evaluation processes.

Data & domain integration

  • Work with subject-matter specialists to incorporate structured knowledge into discovery solutions.
  • Enable systems to leverage relationships between entities such as publications, datasets, or domain-specific concepts.
  • Contribute to improving how metadata and connected data structures are used to enhance relevance.
  • Stay up to date with developments in machine learning, language models, and retrieval techniques, and translate them into practical improvements.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a technical or quantitative field such as computer science, data science, or similar.
  • 6+ years of experience working with systems that surface and rank information
  • At least 2 years of experience in a coordinating or senior capacity.
  • Strong understanding of both traditional search approaches and newer AI-driven methods
  • Experience with RAG system design.
  • Hands-on programming experience in Python, and proficiency with modern ML tooling, such as hugging face or PyTorch.

Nice to have

  • Experience with applications where generated outputs are combined with retrieved information.
  • Familiarity with structured data models, taxonomies, or domain-specific data standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Background in environments dealing with large-scale data or complex information ecosystems.
