How about a REMOTE role as a Chemistry Data Discovery Expert?

What is the project about?
You will work as an organic chemistry SME, together with a team of data scientists on a smart search tool for chemists. It contains chemical facts, reaction steps, and substance properties and can be used to find chemical data from journals and patents, like a super-fast library.
Pharmaceutical companies may use to research how chemicals (medicine) are currently built and patented. When a new route for making this chemical in considered, they first want to know what is the existing (patented) way in order to avoid repetition.

The data scientists and engineers build the model and AI pipelines to extract the data. You will be the go-to-person to check if the extraction is done correctly, by evaluating the output, using your knowledge of molecular names and structures. You will not evaluate those one by one, but used scripting to automate the process where possible.

Job requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry
  • Strong foundation in organic chemistry and organic chemical reactions
  • Confident with recognizing chemical structures, organic nomenclature, stereochemistry
  • Some experience with coding / Scripting (Python or Javascript) and/or data workflows (KNIME)
  • Familiar with chemistry data files in format MOL, SMILES, SDF, RDF, RXN
  • Cheminformatics background
  • Working with RDKit, KNIME
