DigiD | Home

A DigiD (digital identification) is an online ID. With your DigiD you identify yourself when you arrange matters online, such as with the government, educational institutions, healthcare organisations or your pension fund. To make sure this process is well protected, there are a few steps you need to follow to apply for one.

  1. Go to the website of DigiD ( and go to the DigiD application form.
  2. Fill in your personal information
    • BSN
    • Date of Birth
    • Postal code
    • House number
  3. SMS check
    • You can choose to add this feature for extra security to your account. Some services that use DigiD require it, other do not.
  4. Username, password an contact details
    • Choose a username (case sensitive, no spaces)
    • Choose a password -> confirm by retyping
    • Extra option to recover your password through SMS or email
    • Fill in your phone number
    • Fill in your mail address
    • Accept the terms and conditions
  5. Keep your window open while checking your confirmation mail and SMS. Enter both codes and continue.
  6. You will receive a letter to your address with the code to finalise your DigiD. It should arrive at your address within 5 working days. NOTE: you need to active your account within 20 days!
  7. To finalise your DigiD activation, go to the activation page (
    • Fill in your username
    • Fill in your password
    • Fill in the activation code from the letter
    • *optional: fill in the code from your SMS check
    • Activate!

Make sure you keep your DigiD safe! It gives you access to online government, educational and financial information.
